Dark brown Kiwi feathers and border across the top of Kaka bird feathers (rusty red colour). Some Kiwi and Kaka feathers missing but overall very good condition. The European vendor said this artefact sustained, over a period of years, several lucky escapes. It survived an air bombardment WWII, invading armies, a major flood while resting above an attic (great damage was caused below) and a devastating house robbery. The vendor resisted selling it to a British collector and preferred it to be sold in New Zealand so that its historic value would be safeguarded for posterity in the country of origin. 128cm x 160 cm | | Estimate: | *** | | Price: | *** | | Category: | Tribal — New Zealand Maori | | | | |
