*** Parliamentarian Hamiora Mangakahia Desk Writing Compendium Walnut brass insets with original inkwells. 30 cm length, 25 cm height, 24 cm depth Note: Hamiora Mangakahia (1838- 1918), Ngati Whanaunga leader. Was a noted Maori politican and council of the Native Land Court. His most noted political achievement was his contribution to Te Kotahitanga, the Maori parliament movement. *** Rare Maori Tobacco Pipe with carved naturalistic face with full facial moko, tiny paua shell eyes, carved ears with earrings attached and a pipe in the mouth. A carved Gecko with tiny paua shell eyes entwines the stem of the pipe. The carver is probably Tom Heberley. Length 15 cm. D. 4.2 cm. Width 4 cm. Y13754 ***
