A Rare 19th century South Taranaki Maori Wooden Bowl with horizontal lugs level with the rim. One end carved with a human tiki face (but now distressed), the other lug was not carved. Found in the bush and a hole in the bowl was caused by rot while lying on its side. Then in the 1920s painted red, but now only traces of red paint are left. It was placed in a garden where it was discovered again. The wood is dense, probably Matai Diameter 52cm Height 26 cm

Rare and beautiful Maori Wood and 9ct Gold Cigar Pipe carved tattooed faces with tiny paua shell eyes. The two gold bands are marked 9ct gold hallmarked G.P. (may be George Pretkethly - NZ Jeweller and Goldsmith). Also marked Christeson, who was a Wellington tobacconist. The carver is probably Tom Heberley according to the Auckland Museum. Length 13 cm

A Very Rare Chevron Pendant NZ's oldest breast ornament jewellery returned from Australia. Pre-European Maori 14th century whalebone chevron pendant. Extremely rare, a few examples held in Museum's world wide. (It has been suggested they came from the Northland region). This one is near perfect. Has 11 legs (only 1 leg missing) and in good condition overall. The chevron pendant grew out of the simple imitation whale tooth form that was brought to NZ by the first Polynesian settlers.…
